In wilderness is the preservation of the world.

– HENRY DAVID THOREAU

Over the course of the past seven years with journal, sketch books and IPhone in hand, I explored the landscape through the wild of the Glacier Peak Wilderness, the Railroad Creek Valley, the Wonderland Trail at Mt. Rainer and now, the rural setting of western Minnesota. These treks had a spiritual as well as an aesthetic significance for me. These artistic spiritual journeys into the wild and places away from society refocused me to the mystery and wonder of creation.

Exploring the boundaries and tensions, the wilderness and its native landscape casted my mind into contemplation of eternal things. Primal forests, virgin lakes, remote waterfalls contrasted by the ploughed fields and prairie grass. These boundaries have helped me re-form my relationship with the Earth and the Spirit that sustains us. Coming back into relationship with the sacredness of the Earth has drawn me into the realization that everything in the universe is related to everything else in the cosmos. We cannot exist in isolation, but the Earth’s well-being is an essential part of our well-being.
